David Zonderman Named to Lead Department of History at NC State
Professor of History David A. Zonderman has been named head of the Department of History at NC State, effective immediately. Zonderman has been acting head since the untimely death of former head Jonathan Ocko in January 2015; he served as associate head from 2004 - 2015. Among his leadership roles within the college and across NC State, Zonderman was chair of the university’s faculty from 2013 – 2015 and served on the university’s budget restructuring task force from 2012 - 2015.
$8.1M Gift Endows Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies
A gift to establish the Moise A. Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies will firmly establish NC State as the premier research and outreach center on the Lebanese Diaspora. The gift is the largest single gift in the history of the college and the first privately endowed center at NC State.
Students Document Ukranian Unrest, Student Involvement
Two CHASS students -- both Park Scholars – spent their spring break in Ukraine, interviewing students there about their participation in the protests and upheaval roiling the country. Andriy Shymonyak (History and Political Science) and Neel Mandavilli (Political Science) are creating a short documentary about the role of students in the Euromaidan protests.

Site Highlights NC State Student Leaders’ Legacies
CHASS has a long history of fostering student leadership. That legacy is chronicled in a website created by NC State Libraries that uses oral histories, documents, photos and videos to share the experiences of more than 130 of the university's top former student leaders.
Meet Historian David Zonderman
Professor of History David Zonderman is the subject of a video created by students in COM 437 - Advanced Digital Video, in the Department of Communication. The video highlights Zonderman's research and his passion for teaching. He also shares information about the college's humanities extension program and his vision of NC State as a university without walls.
Dean for a Day 2013 Diaries
On Friday, March 15, CHASS hosted the college’s annual Dean for a Day event. This year, Dean Jeff Braden switched places with Andriy Shymonyak, a Park Scholar double major in History and Political Science.
